President's Notes for November 2019

Greetings Olympia MOAA Chapter Members,
We conducted a recruiting drive at the Washington Army National Guard’s Industry Day at Camp Murry and were able to get six new members to our chapter! It is with great pleasure to welcome the following: CW3 Justin Shipman, CW4 Debra Stumpp, MAJ Daniel Wessman, LTC Matthew Nelson, and COL Jason Denney. Please take the time to introduce yourself to them when you see them at the next meeting. For those of you that have not seen this type of recruiting event, we set up a table with various MOAA brochures and basically ask officers when they stop by our table if they know about MOAA and we tell them why MOAA is important to an officer’s career and their families. I’m happy to say that the vast majority of the officers we speak with were very positive about our great organization. I want to thank Carrie and SLOTS for contributing their time on a Saturday morning to come out to Camp Murry and support such an important recruiting event. That said, we are all recruiters and ask that you continue to take the time and opportunity to share with eligible officers the great things we do as a chapter.November is also the time to be thankful, a time to remember and to embrace those who enrich our lives. I’m thankful for a lot of things and particularly thankful for serving as your chapter President.

During this past year, we have accomplished many things, which I will brief you at our next monthly meeting. These accomplishments are the result of the many dedicated chapter members that volunteer their time and the hardworking teammates that serves you as your officers and board members. Thank you for your continued support to the best chapter in Washington! I recently had the honor to attend the funeral of Warren Robinson Jr. at the Tahoma National Cemetery. He did not have any family members attend and the public was invited. I was heartened to see so many veterans and currently serving service members attend his funeral; there must have been hundreds! It was a strong testament of what camaraderie and brotherhood of arms is all about. Finally, as a reminder, we are in the middle of our 2019 Sports Ball drive a so please consider bringing them to our next meeting.

I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
COL (Ret) Howard Lim, Chapter President
