Greetings Olympia MOAA Chapter Members, I want to welcome our newest members, CAPT Dave Minton (USN, Ret.) and his wife Kay. Dave, for those who were at last month’s dinner, gave us an outstanding talk about his time commanding the USS Guardfish (submarine) and close encounters with his Soviet counterparts (ask him about his book documenting this experience)!
Also during last month’s dinner, we bid farewell to Chris and Angie Bartos as they embark on the next phase of their Army journey. Chris will change command on 11 July at JBLM and I encourage all of you to witness a great battalion commander relinquish his command to the new commander. Chris and Angie are a wonderful command team and have been a significant partner in our chapter; we will surely miss them!
Our membership numbers are growing and our membership chief, Jim Richards, continues to work very hard on renewing our delinquent members and recruiting new members. We continue to try many avenues with varying degrees of success. We need all of us to help get the word out to all members who have not renewed and to solicit new members. Please help tell our story – please help to get potential members in touch with Jim, me or any of our BOD members. We need membership growth to continue as a viable organization. To this end, we are conducting a telephone bank party at SLOTS and Roe’s house on 24 July to contact prospective members residing in our area. Thank you to the volunteers that have promised their time to support this major recruiting drive.
Summer has arrived and some of you have shared with me some wonderful plans for summer vacations. I wish you all a wonderful and safe summer but do make time to participate in our monthly MOAA dinner on 17 July. Look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
COL (Ret) Howard Lim, Chapter President
