From the President Desk: August 2019
Greetings Olympia MOAA Chapter Members, I want to welcome 12 of our newest members:
LTC (R) Judy Bourgault, CPT (Former) Geoffrey Hulsey and his wife Flavia, COL Greg Smith, COL (R) Keith Solveson and his wife Denise, CAPT (R) Louis Nick and his wife Alyson, LTC (R) Henry Norquist and his wife Cindy, LTC (R) Rex Barfuso, COL (R) Van Smiley, LT (R) David Sharpes, LTC (R) Gary Pettit, Maj (R) Norman Winter, and Lt (R) Lorn Green.
As you can see, the telephone-bank recruiting party that was held on 24 July at SLOTS and Ro’s house was a tremendous success! We had a bunch of lists with over 400 names and over the period of two hours, with the generous help of volunteers, we finished calling these lists. Each time we netted a new member, we rung the “gong” to let everyone know. This was so much fun that we will make it a regular recruiting event and hope you would consider joining us next time. Many thanks to our volunteers for making this so successful.
On 2 August, we will recognize nearly 200 National Guards candidates finishing their summer camp at Joint Base Lewis McChord. A number of volunteers from the chapter, most in uniform, will present 2LT rank insignias and silver dollars (courtesy of USAA) to these well deserving candidates and SLOTS will read an excellent narrative to the audience while we were presenting. Additionally, we will also set up our chapter table at Camp Murry the following day to talk to the new second lieutenants and hopefully get some more new members!
The board members and myself will be conducting a strategic review for 2019 and prepare the Chapter’s Strategic Plan for 2020. Our main areas of focus for the review will be recruiting, community volunteerism, fund raising, and scholarships. If you have any suggestions, please don’t hesitate to let me or anyone on the board know. I hope you are enjoying the wonderful summer weather and look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
COL (Ret) Howard Lim, Chapter President
